Terms of sale

Last updated: 2026-06-29

These terms govern every order placed through this site. ULF WoodART is operated by Ulf, a single craftsperson, as a sole trader. By completing checkout you accept these terms, please read them carefully. EU consumer law gives you specific rights that nothing on this page can take away, and those rights apply on top of everything below.

1. Who you're buying from

ULF WoodART (the "shop", "I", "me") is operated by Ulf, a sole trader registered in the EU. Postal address and registration number will be filled in here once company registration is complete; until then you can reach me at hello@ulfwoodart.com. There is no separate retailer between us, you contract directly with me.

2. The piece you're buying

Every carving is handmade and one of a kind. The photographs on each product page show the actual piece you'll receive (with the exception of commissions, which are described in plain text). Wood grain, finish tone, and small dimensional variations (typically within ±5 mm) are intrinsic to handmade work and do not constitute a defect under §6.

Stock is updated in real time. When a piece sells, the listing closes. If two orders for the same piece somehow arrive at the same moment, I'll refund the second order in full and email the buyer immediately.

3. Order and contract formation

Listings on this site are an invitation to make an offer. You make a binding offer by completing checkout and clicking the order button. The contract is formed when I confirm the order by email, typically within minutes of a successful payment. If for any reason I can't fulfil your order (piece damaged before shipping, country we can't safely ship to), I'll cancel and refund in full within 7 days.

4. Price, currency, VAT

Prices are shown in EUR and are inclusive of any VAT due in the country of dispatch. Where the destination is outside the EU, the price excludes any import duties or local sales taxes, those are the buyer's responsibility (see §8). Shipping is calculated at checkout based on destination and weight.

5. Payment

Payment is taken at checkout by Stripe (card) or PayPal. I never see or store your card number, Stripe and PayPal handle the entire payment flow on their hosted pages. By paying, you confirm you have authority to use the chosen payment method.

6. Delivery and risk of loss

In-stock pieces leave the workshop within 5 business days. Commissions take 4–8 weeks of carving plus shipping (see the shipping policy for carriers and timing). You receive a tracking number by email the day your piece ships.

Under EU consumer law, risk of loss passes to you when the courier hands the parcel to you (or to a person you've nominated to receive it). If the parcel is lost in transit, that's on me and I'll either ship a replacement (where possible) or refund in full. Damage in transit, see §10.

7. Right of withdrawal (EU 14-day cooling-off)

If you are a consumer based in the EU, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal under the Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU). You can withdraw from the contract without giving any reason within 14 days starting on the day you (or a third party nominated by you) take physical possession of the piece.

To exercise the right, send an unambiguous statement to hello@ulfwoodart.com (email is fine, no specific form is required). You then have a further 14 days to return the piece. The full purchase price including outbound shipping is refunded within 14 days of my receiving the returned piece. Return shipping is at your cost unless the piece was defective.

Commissions are exempt from the right of withdrawal under Art. 16(c) of the Directive, they are goods made to your specifications and cannot resold. This exclusion is shown on the commission form before you commit.

8. Returns and refunds

See the returns policy for full mechanics. Briefly: you have 14 days from receipt to send the piece back (EU only), it must arrive in the same condition it left here, and refunds are issued through the original payment method within 14 days of the return arriving safely.

9. Statutory guarantee (EU consumer law)

Beyond the cooling-off period above, EU consumers have a legal guarantee of conformity (Directive 2019/771) covering up to two years from delivery. If the piece does not conform to what was described or photographed, for example a crack present at delivery that wasn't disclosed, or a finish that wasn't as represented, I'll repair or replace it at no cost, or refund if neither is reasonably possible.

10. Damage in transit

Each piece is wrapped in linen and packed in a fitted box, and I insure every shipment for full retail value. If your piece arrives damaged, take photos of the box AND the piece before unwrapping further, then email me within 7 days. I'll work with the carrier and either repair, replace (where possible), or refund the piece in full.

11. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these terms limits my liability for fraud, gross negligence, personal injury caused by my acts or omissions, or any liability that EU law says cannot be limited. Beyond those, my liability for any contract is limited to the price you paid for the piece. Carvings are decorative or for ceremonial use, they are not food-safe unless I've explicitly told you so, and they are not designed to be load-bearing, weatherproof, or flame-retardant.

12. Force majeure

If something genuinely outside my control (illness, fire in the workshop, courier strike) delays your order, I'll email you with a revised timeline. You can choose to wait or cancel for a full refund.

13. Intellectual property

The carvings, photographs, illustrations, and text on this site are mine. You're welcome to share photos of the piece you bought on social media (it helps me find more customers like you) but please don't reproduce listing photography or product text for commercial use without asking.

14. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the law of my country of establishment in the EU. If you are a consumer, EU rules give you the right to bring an action in the courts of your country of residence and you keep the protections of the consumer-law rules of your country of residence, nothing in these terms changes that.

15. Online dispute resolution

The European Commission provides an Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. I'd rather you email me first, most issues can be sorted in one or two messages, but the ODR platform is there if we can't agree.

16. Changes

I may revise these terms occasionally (clarity, new payment methods, regulatory updates). The version that applies to your order is the one shown at the moment you place it; older versions are archived on request.

17. Severability

If any clause turns out to be unenforceable, the rest of the terms remain in force.

18. Contact

Email hello@ulfwoodart.com. I read every message and reply within a day or two.
